Beyond Northwestern

Library and Archival collections pertinent to Area Studies and Interdisciplinary subjects vary dramatically from library to library. 

For materials not available in the NU Libraries, or should a book you need be checked out, use InterLibrary Loan to get the material delivered here for your use (at no charge!).  We also have reciprocal borrowing agreements with local university libraries should you prefer to borrow directly.

Chicagoland is extraordinarily rich in libraries, archives, museums and other cultural institutions that support research.  Explore those options here and in consultation with your subject librarian!


Archival collections potentially relevant to your research are distributed throughout the country and the globe!  The databases below can assist you to locate critical repositories for your unique research path.  Be sure to consult with your subject librarian who can also direct you toward important research collections.
