The African Studies Association's Outreach Council offers services in support of K-12 teachers seeking support in teaching about Africa. The Outreach Council sponsors an annual teacher workshop held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the African Studies Association. Outreach programs are sponsored at a number of African Studies Centers which specifically support K-12 efforts. Websites include examples of a wide variety of teacher support including lesson plans, continuing education opportunities, lending libraries and materials kits, films etc. In Illinois and adjacent states there are several such programs: University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Indiana University, Michigan State University and the University of Wisconsin Madison.
Other active outreach centers include Boston University, University of California Los Angeles, University of Florida, University of Kansas, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and the University of Pennsylvania.
Additional resources for teachers are available from Africa Access, a site focused on K-12 books and library research programs.
