If you identify an article, book, or other type of material that is not available in the Northwestern University Libraries, there are options for you.
We have Reciprocal Borrowing agreements with selected universities in Chicago-land which will allow you to visit in-person and check out materials using your NU Wildcard. Sometimes a ride on the 'el' or the Intercampus Loop bus can be faster than Interlibrary Loan (described below).
- University of Chicago
- Loyola University
- The University of Illinois at Chicago
- Be sure to contact these libraries in advance
- 1) to be sure the item is available, and
- 2) to be clear on what you need to bring with you to confirm your affiliation with NU
Using the Inter-Library Loan (ILL) service you can request that the item be delivered here for your use.
- login to the request system using your netid and password
- you will be notified when the item is available for download (articles) or pickup (print volumes, microfilm reels, etc.)
- No cost to you! Average time for article delivery is 3-5 days; for books 7-10 days.
- Northwestern is a member of the Center for Research Libraries, and we can borrow from their diverse collections
- Consult with a subject librarian for assistance!!
