Need help searching NUsearch?

Articles and Book Chapters

While abroad you may requests scans of book chapters or articles that are available in print. 

Limits

  • Requests may be limited to 10 per week based on capacity at the busiest times of the year
  • Applicable copyright and fair use guidelines will be followed; requests must be for educational, non-commercial purposes
  • Generally, we will scan one chapter or 10% of a single book for an individual with a 50 page maximum

Turnaround Time

Standard turnaround time is 1-4 days. If we have difficulty fulfilling a request, we will email you. 

Placing a Request

From NUsearch

  • Click the link to sign in
  • Log in as a Northwestern User
  • Click "request chapter scan"

Without NUsearch

  • Log into your Interlibrary Loan Account
  • Under "Place a Request" choose "article or book chapter"
  • Fill out as much citation information as possible; more information can speed along fulfillment 

 

Google Books

Most "full view" books in Google Books are older, out of copyright books (published before 1923) but many more recent books have large portions available as a preview.

Use the previews to determine if there are chapters you might want to request a scan of through interlibrary loan.
