All independent school districts in Illinois are governed by school boards comprised of seven members, serving four-year staggered terms. Members are elected at-large during the Consolidated Election in April of each odd-numbered year. The boards are responsible for hiring a superintendent to ensure that schools are managed in accordance with State of Illinois laws and policies set forth by the board.
