The world community has demonstrated a deep concern with the most recent outbreak of the Ebola virus in parts of West Africa. Of the eighteen West African countries, the ongoing Ebola outbreak has affected the following countries: Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria Senegal and Sierra Leone. Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone are the most affected countries. The first case of the current Ebola outbreak was reported in Guinea, where the per capita GDP of $1100 (for 2013) has limited the country’s ability to fight the epidemic. The challenge for Liberia and Sierra Leone to fight Ebola is caused by their fragile infrastructure, which is being rebuilt after many years of civil war in these countries.  Nigeria and Senegal, however, are two success stories as the World Health Organization declared them to be Ebola free. Mali has reported only one case. This libguide provides resources regarding the response by these countries to Ebola and the different ways that they are dealing with the epidemic. Since the Ebola virus was first discovered in the 1970s, there have been a number of outbreaks. To provide information relevant to the disease, this libguide suggests resources about the current and previous Ebola occurrences.
