Technical Standards and Patents

Search for Standards

When someone makes a new product, they need to make sure it follows the technical standards for that type of product. There are usually two kinds of standards: one published by the federal government and one produced by industrial or trade associations. Are you wondering what published standards there are for the product you want to make? You can search and identify standards in the IHS standards store at

Available Standards Provided by the Libraries

ISO Standards

Currently, the Libraries doesn't provide access to ISO standards. For faculty or TAs, if you need ISO standards for a class, the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) University Outreach Program will provide ISO standards for classroom use. Please email Anna Ren, Engineering Research and Collection Analysis Librarian for more information.

If you need ISO standards for your research or project outside of classroom, you can make a request through our Interlibrary Loan Service.

All Other Standards

Please make a request through our Interlibrary Loan Service for all other standards. If you need help, please schedule an appointment with Anna Ren, using "Schedule a Research Consultation" tab in the right column.
