ENGLISH 304: Practical Rhetoric

NUsearch: NU Libraries' Search Tool

Use NUsearch, Northwestern University Library's search tool, to find books, documents, video, sound recordings, and other items across both the Evanston and Chicago campus libraries of Northwestern University.
NOTE: NUsearch can also search across several article databases to retrieve articles and other documents.

How to start searching for books and other sources in NUsearch, plus instructions for requesting books

EXAMPLE SEARCH FOR SOURCES ON THE TOPIC OF WRITING TUTORING IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Selected relevant subject headings (but there may be others!):

English language--Rhetoric--Study and teaching (Higher)
Tutors and tutoring--training of
Writing centers

Example keyword search strategy below (again there may be others):

tutor* --> finds tutor, tutors, tutoring, etc.
tutor AND writing --> finds both words, tutor and writing, in the same record for book, article or other source (a narrowing search)
writing OR rhetoric --> finds either word, writing or rhetoric, or.. finds both words.  (a broadening search--useful for including synonyms or related words)

The initial search below in NUsearch finds not only books, but journals, individual articles and many other formats for information sources.  You can easily limit down to online availability, such as ebooks, any format, or date of publication, subject, language, etc.

If you find books you need that are in the Libraries but not available online, you can place a request for off-campus delivery to your address, or can request a scan of a chapter of the book.

Choose either Request (for pick up in the Library or home delivery) or Request a Chapter Scan.
