COMM_ST_102: Public Speaking (Lee): Find Data & Statistics

Research Tip

If you'd like to frame your issue by providing data and statistics, try the following:

Governmental Agency Websites

For example, if I am researching the topic of education in prisons, I may want to check the Bureau of Justice's website to find statistics on the number of people in prison, and perhaps their breakdown by sex and ethnicity.

You may also use one of the databases on this page. ProQuest Statistical Insight contains reports from U.S. Federal agencies, states, and private organizations.

Organizations and Non-Profit Websites

For example, if I want to make an argument that prison education reduces the rate of recidivism, I might visit the Prison Education Foundation website to see if they've compiled any statistics on that topic.
