What is a primary source?

A primary source provides a first-hand account of an event or time period.  It is also the raw data you use to support your argument. 
Examples of primary sources you may use for your assignment are: comics, data graphics, testimony, diaries, letters, speeches, oral histories, news clippings, and photographs.

What is a secondary source?

A secondary source provides an analysis, interpretation, synthesis, evaluation, criticism, or a summary of a primary source.  It may describe or explain a primary source. 
Examples of secondary sources you may use for your assignment are: biographies, literature reviews, news articles, scholarly journal articles, magazine articles, or excerpts of these.
