Museum websites can be valuable sources of information on artists, themes ans time periods. Many also have prior exhibitions archived. Search "Modernism" on museum sites to get started.

The Armory Show of 1913, or the International Exhibition of Modern Art, was the first large exhibition of modern art in America. It was a revelation for audiences accustomed to conventional depictions of realism, and who may have been unprepared for the experimental world of the Cubists and Futurists, among others. It showed in New York, Chicago, and Boston, profoundly influencing the collective understanding of just what art could be.
