Mapping LCSH to alternative subject headings
Starting in May 2021, Northwestern University Libraries is mapping LCSH terms to alternative vocabularies and local terms in order to replace those subject headings in our local catalog. In the Alma LSP this is done by creating a local subject vocabulary, Northwestern University Local Authorities (NULA), and replacing those subject headings in the catalog records. The original LCSH heading is retained in a local field for searching.
The authority headings, normalization rules, and workflows are publicly available on the NULA GitHub repository.
