Faculty Research Interests Mapped to Subject Headings & Classification Systems
Copy/paste from faculty websites the words that describe their research and teaching interests.
Create a spreadsheet or database of these words.
Conduct a collection analysis based on word analysis:
- Map the words to LC Subject Headings and search holdings by these subject headings. To take a step further, compare these results by running identical subject headings searches in peer libraries. See, WorldCat Comparative Analysis and Public Catalogs Analysis. And/or, explore the interdisciplinarity/homogeneity of the results through an analysis of the call numbers.
- Map the words to Dewey or LC classifications and search for holdings within the existing collection.
