DataBank: YBP Consortia Data in Gobi

Consortial Titles Comparisons

This report will give you titles, as opposed to numbers of titles. For title counts, see Consortial Comparison Reports

1.       See SEARCH tab

2.       Click on CONSORTIAL TITLES

See your choices of reports under CONSORTIAL ACTIVITY. It is very straightforward. Each of these will generate a title list:

·         Titles acquired by Consortium:  Can be used to analyze overlap, strengths and weaknesses in collections

·         Titles not acquired by Consortium: See if a particular topic or subject is being systematically overlooked

·         All titles acquired or not acquired, with the option to exclude your library

Scroll down to choose values on the variables offered (Universe, Dewey Class, etc.). You do have the option to search for a specific title, but if you want to see consortium activities on a single title it is quicker to search for the title in the Quick Search box and then click on GobiTween.

This is an example from a search on "Titles acquired by Consortium." It reveals that NUL received an alternative edition (paperback, e-book) of this publication, 11 members of the CIC (not including NUL) received the work, and 4 books were sent to libraries designated in a saved Peer Group.

The example below shows 2 incidents of this title acquired by Consortium members. Notice that the data for Peers does not appear. In contrast to a few Consortium members, neither NUL nor any of the libraries in the designated Peer Group acquired this e-book.

Notice that there is no indication on the search results page of what makes up this search. That can become confusing especially if you are doing multiple searches. Look at your options to the left (not shown above) for help. For example, you could EMAIL the results to yourself and describe your search in the message.  Or you can click on SAVE PARAMETERS to view the values you chose.

Or, you can actually SAVE PARAMETERS of the search. This is convenient, too, if you wish to perform the saved search against a number of libraries or at different periods of time. You will be prompted as to whether or not you want to the parameters to SHOW IN MENU:

(1) If yes, you will see the saved parameters listed on the SEARCH menu under SAVED SEARCHES.

(2) If no, when you return to the SEARCH / CONSORTIAL TITLES page, you can "Retrieve Parameters." It retrieves all parameters except the comparison library.
