Map of Africa - 1777Here are some helpful guidelines and resources to help you maximize your time as you plan your visit to the Herskovits Library.

The Melville J Herskovits Library of African Studies is located on the 5th Floor, east tower of the University Library. The self-serve areas of the Herskovits Library collections are open to the public when the University Library is open to the public.

The Herskovits staff are available to assist scholars and researchers on weekdays from 8:30 am to 5:00 p.m.

Please contact us in advance of a planned visit. Email is best:

It will be helpful to let us know when you plan to visit (the specific dates, so that we can help your registration process with the library's security desk) as well as what your area of interest is. As you discover specific materials you wish to examine, please send that information to us as before your visit well.

The more we know about you and your research project beforehand, the better and more efficiently we can help you while you are here.
