Federal Agency Websites

UPDATE 2/9/2018:  5 hour government shutdown ends this morning with President's signature of temporary funding measure (through March 23).

UPDATE 2/8/2018:   Effective 12:01 am on 2/9/2018 the U.S. Federal Government will be closed due to lack of funding.

The following federal agency websites are impacted as noted by the government shutdown.  Alternative sources of information are being added as they are located.  See also the tab Alternative Online Resources.

  • Archives.gov -- site is operating with the following notice posted (1/22/18):
  • Bureau of Economic Analysis (bea.gov) -- page is operating, providing data and publications
  • Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov)-- page is operating with this notice posted (1/22/18):
    • "This website is currently not being updated due to the suspension of Federal government services. The last update to the site was Friday, January 19. Updates to the site will start again when the Federal government resumes operations."
  • Centers for Disease Control (CDC) -- page is operating with this notice posted (1/22/18):
    • "During the government shutdown, only web sites supporting excepted functions will be updated. As a result, the information on this website may not be up to date and the agency may not be able to respond to inquiries. Updates regarding government operating status and resumption of normal operations can be found at https://www.opm.gov/."
  • CDC Wonder -- page is operating with this notice posted (1/22/18):
    • "During the government shutdown, only web sites supporting excepted functions will be updated. As a result, the information on this website may not be up to date and the agency may not be able to respond to inquiries. Updates regarding government operating status and resumption of normal operations can be found at https://www.opm.gov/"
  • CDC National Center for Health Statistics -- page is operating with this notice posted (1/22/18)
    • "During the government shutdown, only web sites supporting excepted functions will be updated.   • Census.gov (also American FactFinder, public APIs, FTP servers, Blogs, Online Surveys, Federal Stats sites FedStat, MapStat, FCSM, FAQs).
  • Copyright.gov -- page is operating but is not being updated (1/22/18)
  • Data.gov -- page is operating however not all pages linked to may be available (1/22/18)
  • ERIC (eric.ed.gov) -- page is operating (1/22/18)
  • FCC.gov -- page is operating (1/22/18)
  • FTC.gov -- page is operating, although any interactive components of the site (reporting identify theft, obtaining credit report, etc) are not.
  • Homeland Security (DHS) -- page is operating with this notice posted (1/22/18):
    • "The Department of Homeland Security (DHS)’s website and social media networks will not be actively managed during the lapse in funding. This website was last updated on January 19, 2018 and will not be updated until after funding is enacted. As such, information on this website may not be up to date. Transactions submitted via this website might not be processed and we will not be able to respond to inquiries until after appropriations are enacted. We will not be able to respond or update social media until after funding is enacted."
  • Housing & Urban Development (HUD) -- page is operating but is not being updated
  • Interior -- how the shutdown impacts several agencies
    • US Forest Service -- page unavailable 1/22/18
    • USGS.gov -- site is operating with the following notice posted (1/22/18):
      • "Due to a lapse in appropriations, the majority of USGS websites may not be up to date and may not reflect current conditions. Websites displaying real-time data, such as Earthquake and Water and information needed for public health and safety will be updated with limited support. Additionally, USGS will not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted.  For more information, please see www.doi.gov/shutdown."
  • Justice -- page is operating with this notice posted (1/22/18):
    • "Due to the lapse in appropriations, Department of Justice websites will not be regularly updated. The Department’s essential law enforcement and national security functions will continue. Please refer to the Department of Justice’s contingency plan for more information."

  • Labor -- page is operating with this notice posted (1/22/18):
    • "This website is currently not being updated due to the suspension of Federal government services. The last update to the site was January 22, 2018. Updates to the site will start again when the Federal government resumes operations. For workplace safety and health emergencies, please call 800-321-6742; for mine safety emergencies, please call 800-746-1553."
    • Bureau of Labor Statistics -- page is operating but not bein updated (1/22/18)
  • Library of Congress -- page is operating with this notice posted (1/22/18):
    • "Due to the temporary shutdown of the federal government all Library of Congress buildings are now closed and all public events are canceled until further notice. Read more."
  • NASA.gov -- page is operating (1/22/18)
  • National Institutes of Health (NIH) -- page is operating with this notice posted (1/22/18):
    • "Because of a lapse in government funding, the information on this website may not be up to date, transactions submitted via the website may not be processed, and the agency may not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted. The NIH Clinical Center (the research hospital of NIH) is open. For more details about its operating status, please visit cc.nih.gov. Updates regarding government operating status and resumption of normal operations can be found at USA.gov.
  • National Park Service (nps.gov) -- page is operating, the following notice is posted (1/22/18)
    • "Because of the federal government shutdown, this website is not being updated and may not reflect current conditions. For your planning purposes, some parks in the National Park System may have areas that remain accessible to visitors; however access may change without notice, and some parks are closed completely. Some lodging, restaurants, and other services may be available when provided by concessioners or other entities. Be aware that there will be no National Park Service-­provided visitor services, including restrooms, trash collection, facilities, or road maintenance. For more information, see www.doi.gov/shutdown and the park website."
  • NCES National Center for Education Statistics -- page is operating (1/22/18)

  • Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) --
    • "January 22 Update:  The SEC will remain open for a limited number of days during the federal government shutdown, fully staffed and focused on the agency's mission. Any changes to the SEC's operational status will be announced here. In the event that the SEC does shut down, we will pursue the agency's plan for operating during a shutdown. As that plan contemplates, we are currently making preparations for a potential shutdown with a focus on the market integrity and investor protection components of our mission."
  • Treasury - page is operating with a link to Lapse in Appropriations Contingecy Plan (1/22/18)
  • Transportation -- page is operating with this notice posted (1/22/18):
    • "The Department has initiated its shutdown plan for continuing operations as a lapse in annual appropriations has occurred. All DOT, including FAA, safety operations continue to function with no impact to safety or safety oversight for the traveling public."  Also provided, "Operations During a Lapse in Annual Appropriations."
