Digital Archives

Digital archiving is the act of storing, describing, and preserving digital objects for backup and future use. At Northwestern University Libraries, digital content is archived and preserved by trained professionals following various sets of best practices. However, digital archiving is essential for everyone, not just professionals!  We all have important digital content worth taking steps to preserve.

This guide provides recommendations for all users to ensure that their personal digital files are archived for future use. Not all recommendations in this guide may be feasible for all users; but even small steps towards digital preservation can go a long way in archiving your digital footprint.
