ESRI ArcGIS 9.3 Tutorials
ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Extensions come with tutorials and tutorial
data to help you learn to use the software. You can use the links above
to open PDF versions of the tutorials, or to view animations based on
the tutorials.
ESRI Resource Center
Free online datasets, tutorials, scripts and models for ESRI software users. Click on topics (try "Geoprocessing" under Functions) and then click on "Community" next - here, you can access tutorials and additionals tools (scripts, models & templates).
GIS in the Library
GIS refers to either "Geographic Information System" (software) or "Geographic Information Science" (discipline). As a tool, GIS can be defined as a system "capable of capturing, storing, analyzing, and displaying geographically referenced information." - see USGS "What is a GIS"
The Govinfo department has provided reference and instruction services to the campus GIS users since 1999. The main GIS software the library provides is Desktop ArcGIS (ArcView version.) Click on Learn GIS page to learn more about software access on campus.
