Digital Scanning for Microfiche and Microfilm Using the Minolta MS 6000 MKII
Step One: Set up the item to be scanned in the Minolta fiche/film reader.
The on/off button for the Microfilm/fiche reader is on the right hand side of the machine. Put the film or fiche onto the reader and locate the portion you wish to scan.
While there is a box marked on the reader display screen for centering the image this is not a foolproof guide. You will need to adjust the image when you scan to ensure you have the complete image/text in the scan.
Use the two dials below the display screen to focus the image.
The smaller blue dial will change the size of the image
The larger tan dial will change the sharpness of the image
Step Two: Use the PC to the left of the Minolta Reader to Capture the Image
Login to the computer using your NU NetID or your GuestID.
Locate Adobe Acrobat XI Pro from the Start Menu (this is not the Adobe Reader). You may need to open ALL PROGRAMS to find it listed alphabetically.
From the Create button on the top left, highlight PDF From Scanner and then select the image color format from the popup menu. The first option, Autodetect Color Mode, is a good choice. Once you make a selection the scan will begin.
When the scan is complete a menu will appear providing you the option to scan another page or complete the process.
Step Three: Save Scanned Document
When you have finished scanning be sure to save the document and remember where you have saved it on the computer. You can then attach it to an email OR copy it to a flash/thumb drive. If you leave it on the computer it will be deleted when you logoff.
When you have finished turn off the Microfiche/film machine and logoff the computer.
