StrengthsFinder 2.0

A collection of resources assembled by the Staff Development Committee.

Northwestern University Library Staff Development Committee

The Process

  1. Obtain a copy of Tom Rath's StrengthsFinder 2.0, available by contacting Vince McCoy, Strengths Finder Coordinator, vmccoy@northwestern.edu, 847-491-8390.
  2. Log in to the StrengthsFinder module using the web address and unique code found in the back of the book. The assessment is multiple-choice and usually doesn't take longer than 20 minutes to complete.
  3. Upon completion of the assessment, each staff member receives a profile of their top five strengths, along with several detailed reports regarding those traits as well as strategies on how best to utilize your strengths.
  4. After taking the assessment, staff are encouraged to read the first chapter of the book, as well the profiles for any relevant strength characteristics. The first chapter of the book gives a brief overview of strengths-based leadership and staff development.
  5. Staff will then meet with others who have taken the assessment to discuss results and formulate plans for incorporating their findings into their daily work. Team leaders are encouraged to use the information for team building.
