Frequently Asked Questions

Please refer to the text below for answers to some commonly asked questions. More questions and answers will be added as they are received.

How do I become a Buddy?

Check with your supervisor to make sure you are cleared for the time commitment involved and then contact a NULSA New Staff Officer to get your name on the volunteer list. Please see the Contact page for information on getting in touch with them.

What is the time commitment involved?

The first few weeks of the program are the most intensive and should require an hour or two each week - less thereafter. It should be noted that this program is endorsed by Library Administration and is as such considered a productive use of work time.

Will the library pay for lunch for my new hire and me, or will I have to pay?

The library is at this time unable to pay for lunches for staff members per the Northwestern University Entertainment Policy. However, there are plans for periodic lunch outings sponsored by the library for Buddies and their New Hires. These will be group outings for all Buddies and New Hires who began the program within a given time period. More details will be forthcoming.

Where can I find more information on the onboarding process for new hires?

The Library New Hire Onboarding LibGuide has information and links for new employees.
